Hoys Roadlines Pty
Ltd was established in Wangaratta around 70 years ago by the company's founders,
Eric and Edith Hoy.
They operated a number of Coach services out of Wangaratta including the railway
contract to provide a connecting coach service between Porepunkah, on the old
Wangaratta to Bright Railway Line, and the Mount Buffalo Chalet which was then
operated by the Victorian Railways. This service was later altered to connect
with the train at Wangaratta following the closure of the Bright rail line. Other
services ran to Kiewa and Mount Beauty.

It came as little surprise to the industry back
in August 1993 when the Victorian Government called for private tenders to operate
numerous endangered rail lines, that Hoys won the contract to operate the Melbourne
to Cobram service with a mixture of Coach and Rail travel. Hoys became the first
private company to operate a passenger train on Victorian government tracks since
the Altona and Laverton Bay Freehold and Investment Co Ltd handed over their line
to the Victorian Railways back in 1924.

to commence from Griffith in the mornings and return in the evenings offering
people in those areas day returns to Melbourne. |
